CUBES |
Square-faced prisms |
|
APATITE |
Native phosphate of lime, occurring usually in six-sided
prisms, color often pale green, transparent or translucent. |
|
KAMPYLITE |
A variety of mimetite or arseniate of lead in hexagonal
prisms of a fine orange yellow. |
|
|
CANTHARIDIN |
The active principle of the cantharis, or Spanish fly,
a volatile, acrid, bitter solid, crystallizing in four-sided prisms. |
|
GIESECKITE |
A mineral occurring in greenish gray six-sided prisms,
having a greasy luster. It is probably a pseudomorph after elaeolite. |
|
TRAJECT |
To throw or cast through, over, or across; as, to
traject the sun's light through three or more cross prisms. |
|
CRAYON |
An implement for drawing, made of clay and plumbago, or of
some preparation of chalk, usually sold in small prisms or cylinders. |
|
|
LANARKITE |
A mineral consisting of sulphate of lead, occurring
either massive or in long slender prisms, of a greenish white or gray
color. |
|
CRONSTEDTITE |
A mineral consisting principally of silicate of iron,
and crystallizing in hexagonal prisms with perfect basal cleavage; --
so named from the Swedish mineralogist Cronstedt. |
|
ANDALUSITE |
A silicate of aluminium, occurring usually in thick
rhombic prisms, nearly square, of a grayish or pale reddish tint. It
was first discovered in Andalusia, Spain. |
|
APOPHYLLITE |
A mineral relating to the zeolites, usually occurring
in square prisms or octahedrons with pearly luster on the cleavage
surface. It is a hydrous silicate of calcium and potassium. |
|
ICELAND SPAR |
A transparent variety of calcite, the best of which is
obtained in Iceland. It is used for the prisms of the polariscope,
because of its strong double refraction. Cf. Calcite. |
