A piece in machinery acting as a catch or clutch; especially,
the carrier of a lathe, also, an adjustable stop to change motion, as
in a machine tool. |

PLATEN |
The movable table of a machine tool, as a planer, on which
the work is fastened, and presented to the action of the tool; -- also
called table. |

SPINDLE |
The shaft, mandrel, or arbor, in a machine tool, as a
lathe or drilling machine, etc., which causes the work to revolve, or
carries a tool or center, etc. |

CUTTER |
That which cuts; a machine or part of a machine, or a tool
or instrument used for cutting, as that part of a mower which severs
the stalk, or as a paper cutter. |
